I had the great pleasure to collaborate with some of my very favorite vendors for a styled-shoot at Hughes Manor. If you haven't heard of it, Hughes is one of the most popular wedding venues in Houston, settled in the acclaimed and historic Heights neighborhood. As far as places in town to have a wedding go, I think it's one of my favorite options. As a wedding photographer, I'm always appreciative of beautifully lit, well-designed grounds and details in a venue. Hughes Manor has all of those things. I love the open concept and the beautiful accents - especially the gorgeous chandeliers, as well as the outdoor space for cocktails and wedding ceremonies. It's a wedding photographer's dream (and bride's too, I suspect).
Our shoot was inspired by the simple elegance, clean lines, and modern feel of the venue. Cheery pops of color in the florals brought twinkling candles to life for the table settings. A set of polished invitations accented the refined feel and tied the whole look together. And our wonderful model was a stunner in three gowns showcasing the hottest wedding trends. Here are some of my favorite photographs from the day:
I think Hugues is a great venue for both indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies, but I must admit I absolutely love the garden areas. Our model, Kirsten, and I had a blast playing outside and using that beautiful light to accent the amazing flow of her wedding gown and the glittering of the crystal accents. It didn't hurt that she has a fantastic back to showcase all of that beautiful beading! And we caught just enough wind to set that cathedral veil flying!
Back inside, bold and clean design provided a stunning backdrop for the perfect bridal portrait. I love the bank of windows that flood the room with natural light.
This type of lighting is excellent for showcasing the soft elegance of Kirsten's up-do and clean makeup. Photographing these details is a fun part of bridal portraits and important for capturing all the effort that brides put into wedding day and looking fabulous.
I already mentioned the amazing chandeliers at Hughes Manor...but here's a visual to illustrate how beautifully they frame the main reception area.
All of that beautiful light provides and excellent backdrop for photographs of the table settings, stationery, and floral details. Gold and fuchsia were our theme for this elegant yet fun styled shoot.
From soft and elegant to VA-voom! The fuchsia bridesmaid gowns made a splash by the bar for cocktail hour and in the exotically beautiful lounge.
Many brides wonder how to kick-up their makeup look a notch from soft to glam for the later portions of wedding day. A skilled makeup artist is key, as is a stronger lip shade and slightly more pronounced eyeliner.
A heartfelt THANK YOU to all of the wonderful vendors that came together for this project. I loved every minute of collaborating with you and hope to see you again soon at the next wedding!
